About Love Letters to the South

When Hurricane Katrina's powerful winds tore through the Gulf Coast leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, tens of thousands injured and countless others without parents, children, siblings and friends - the world stood in awe. There was no question that "we will soon dance our way back to Dixieland," as actor and singer Justin Timberlake put it, but when that will happen still remains to be seen.

What Americans, and those around the world know instinctively is that the rebuilding efforts will take years, and the critical funds and resources necessary to ensure that the displaced will find their way back home needs to be provided by a variety of charitable initiatives, organizations and ordinary people who simply can't stand by idly.

Love Letters to the South, a one-of-kind photography book, is our attempt along with the world's best-loved celebrities, to pay tribute to all those affected by Hurricane Katrina. With proceeds proudly supporting The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and Habitat for Humanity's Operation Home Delivery every purchase helps with the rebuilding efforts, and helps ensure that critical resources will be available in any future disaster.

We are very grateful to the many humanitarians who took the time to be photographed and share their love for the South. It is our hope that their words of encouragement will provide comfort and that their commitment to this project will help encourage others to join us in ensuring that both emergency resources and assets to aid in long-term recovery is available whenever and wherever disaster strikes.
